Milton area community leaders gathered Monday morning to break ground on a the city's new Veterans Memorial. Organizer Richard Fry, a Vietnam veteran himself, is overwhelmed by the community's support of the project. Fry says the memorial will feature three large granite markers. Two of the markers will list the names of Milton's fallen soldiers dating back to the Civil War. Jarrett Goodman, who like Fry is a Vietnam era Veteran, helped raise money by selling paver bricks. Goodman was also overwhelmed by community support. He says their goal was a little more than 200, but they've sold well over 300. The monument will also feature granite benches, along with flags and plaques representing each of the armed forces. A centerpiece is a statuesque Eagle. A dedication ceremony is planned for the Independence day weekend.
