Community garden being organized in Evansville

Organizers of a new community garden will meet at Creekside Place, 102 Maple Street in Evansville, at 9 am on April 19. They will hear guest speaker Christy Marsden, UW-Extension Horticulture Educator, talk about getting a community garden underway.  The meeting will be a part of the last Indoor Farmers Market at Creekside Place for this season. The market moves outside in May.

This will be the third meeting to launch a community garden in Evansville. Members of the Lions Club, the Evansville Farmers Market, Evansville Community Partnership, City government and several local gardeners have met to decide on a location for the garden and to begin drafting guidelines for participation. The public is invited to attend and participate.  Christy Marsden began with extension in 2013 after working at Seed Savers Exchange in Decorah, Iowa. She has a Masters in Environmental Horticulture from the University of California, Davis. She has a passion for connecting plants with people through what we eat and grow and will be speaking three times at Creekside Place in April and May on a variety of topics.
