Rock County Sheriff candidates talk heroin and prescription drug abuse
The candidates running for Rock County Sheriff agree that heroin and prescription drug abuse are on the rise.
Incumbent Sheriff Robert Spoden says a lot has already been to combat these issues in Rock County.
Challenger Captain Gary Groelle says Rock County would benefit from education, advocacy, and community outreach.
Groelle says some of the ideas he took away from the drug abuse summit include encouraging 100 percent participation in the Prescription Monitoring Program by doctors statewide, equipping all first responders with overdose antidote drugs, and installing a prescription drug drop off box at the Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff Spoden says he's already working on getting the drug drop-off box.
Groelle and Spoden will face-off in the Democratic primary election on August 12th.
