Beloit police arrest the man they shot a little over a week ago

The man Beloit police shot almost a week ago after they say he stuck and killed a woman while trying to flee from them in a vehicle is released from the hospital and placed under arrest.

40-year-old Christopher Rutherford of Beloit was released from Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center in Janesville on Tuesday and transported to the Rock County Jail.

Beloit Police say they responded to the report of an unwanted person in the 900 block of 10th Street on May 11th. As officers were attempting to take Rutherford into custody, he escaped from them and fled in a vehicle.

While pulling away, police say Rutherford struck and killed Sheila Rosenbaum of Beloit, who was also the victim in the unwanted person report.

Police fired their weapons at the fleeing vehicle, and it eventually crashed in the 800 block of Roosevelt. Rutherford then attempted to flee on foot, and officers took him into custody a short distance away.

He's charged with first degree reckless homicide and felony fleeing resulting in death.
