Elise Dornan says her and C.J. VanZandt were going to get married no matter what, but it was a Federal Judge's decision Friday that allowed them to do so in their hometown.
The Janesville couple have been together for two years and have a small daughter together. They were planning on driving to Rockford to obtain a marriage license Monday, but a Federal Judge's decision to overturn Wisconsin's ban on same sex marriages changed that.
In total the Rock County Clerk's Office issued eight marriage licenses Monday, and waived the five day waiting period, allowing couples to marry right away.
Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen filed a motion to stay the Judge's decision from Friday, and she denied that request Monday afternoon.
