United Blackhawk Region names new presidebnt

According to a news release from the United Way Blackhawk Region.

In a unanimous vote, the United Way Blackhawk Region Board of Directors has named Mary Fanning-Penny as the organization’s new president. Fanning-Penny will succeed longtime United Way President Steve Kinkade upon his retirement.
Fanning-Penny is currently serving as executive director of Rotary Botanical Gardens in Janesville. Prior to her role at the Gardens, Fanning-Penny served on the Strategic Communications Team for Alliant Energy and as communications manager for the General Motors Assembly Plant.
Lynn Gardinier, United Way Blackhawk Region Board Chairwoman said in a release from the United Way that “Fanning-Penny embodies the mission of the United Way. As an experienced and dynamic leader, and dedicated advocate for the United Way, Mary is an ideal choice to lead the organization as it continues its important work to improve lives through its initiatives in education, income and health. Her experience in both the corporate and nonprofit worlds will be invaluable.”
Fanning-Penny has served on the local United Way Board of Directors since 2008 and its respective Strategic Planning and Brand Strategy and Marketing committees. Fanning-Penny’s personal commitment to the work of the United Way includes serving on its Community Impact Council, as an allocation process volunteer, campaign account manager and as a speaker on behalf of the United Way.
Fanning-Penny was selected from a field of more than 20 qualified candidates following a national search that began in March.
Kinkade is retiring after a 43-year United Way career, the last 15 years in the Blackhawk Region.
Gardinier said Kinkade will remain on staff through the leadership transition and is developing a comprehensive onboarding plan for the new president, including donor, staff, volunteer and program partner introductions. He will also help to familiarize Fanning-Penny with United Way systems and resources and provide her with campaign and allocation status overviews.
Fanning-Penny’s first day as United Way Blackhawk Region President will be Monday, July 14.
