Janesville residential fire causes $42,000 in damage

A Janesville couple are staying with friends after a fired causes over $40,000 in damage to their home.

Janesville Fire Officials say they were dispatched to a residence on the 1600 block of South River Road just before noon Wednesday on the report of a possible fire.

The residents had already made it out safely when crews arrived, and the fire was contained to the basement, although the rest of the home did sustain smoke damage.

The residents reported that they detected and unfamiliar odor prior to the fire, and left to get a fan to ventilate the smell. When they returned they found fire crews on scene.
