AUDIO: Rotary Botanical Gardens brings back the StoryWalk

Rotary Botanical Gardens in Janesville, in collaboration with Hedberg Public Library’s Children’s Room, is delighted to announce the return of StoryWalk—a fun and engaging garden activity for youth, families and visitors of any age.
StoryWalk offers a unique opportunity to experience “Where the Wild Things Are,” a classic children’s book by Maurice Sendak, in a whole new way. As part of this adventure, pages of the book are placed at various locations along a walking route and through RBG’s expanded Jungle Garden. StoryWalkers pause to read each page and then move through along the pathway to read the next. Along the way, they will enjoy a bit of adventure as they trek through and around the brightly colored doors and windows placed among this garden’s tropical jungle-like plantings.
Opening day of StoryWalk is Wednesday, June 25, 2014. RBG and HPL staff will be on hand from 10:30 a.m. to noon to welcome visitors to the installation. In honor of RBG’s 25th anniversary, admission on that day is free, although donations are always welcome and appreciated.
“This is our third year partnering with Hedberg’s Children’s Room on StoryWalk, a program that promotes outdoor activity, imagination, and early literacy in a fun new way”, says Kris Koch, RBG’s Education Coordinator. “We are thrilled to host the program and know that the Jungle Garden will be an amazing backdrop for this book.”
StoryWalk is a unique partnership between RBG Education and HPL’s Children’s Room. It is included with the regular price of Gardens admission, is accessible during normal hours of operation and will be displayed through the 2014 growing season.
