Charges amended in kidnapping case

The 31-year-old Colorado woman, accused of kidnapping a days old baby from a town of Beloit home in February, will likely spend no less than 25-years in prison if convicted.  Federal charges against Kristen Smith have been amended to kidnapping of a person under age 18, and transporting the victim in interstate commerce.  This elevates the mandatory minimum penalty to 25-years, but she could get life.  Smith is accused of abducting her nephew Kayden Powell February 6th.  The 5-day old was found safe, outside an Iowa gas station in frigid weather, a day later.  A trial date has been set for July 28th.
