Boy shot in Walworth County identified
The 11-year-old boy, shot in the head near Sharon Wednesday, has been declared brain dead. The Walworth County Coroner's office reports the declaration was made 12:38 a.m. Thursday. The boy remains on life support at Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center in Janesville. Deputy Coroner Thomas Miller couldn't comment on whether the family is considering donating the boy's organs, but agrees that's a common reason why a body is kept on life support after a declaration of brain death. The Walworth County Sheriff's office says Eric Gutierrez was found shot in the head early Wednesday afternoon in a wooded area behind a home in the 16-hundred block of County K in the Town of Sharon. Authorities say they've interviewed a 13-year-old boy as a witness, and also recovered a handgun.
