Local schools receive $80,000 grants
The School Districts of Beloit and Janesville receive $80,000 21st Century Community Learning Center grants from the State Department of Public Instruction.
Community Learning Centers are designed to improve student achievement, attendance, and behavior by providing enriching activities for youth during out-of-school hours. The funds can be used to support before-and-after-school, weekend, and summer activities.
Funding for this latest round of grants was awarded to programs that serve schools with at least 40 percent or more of enrolled students at or below poverty level and a high percentage of students struggling academically.
The first-time grants were awarded to Cunningham Intermediate School in Beloit, and Jefferson Elementary School in Janesville.
