Don't Panic

By Tim Bremel ( Contact )   February 5, 2008

At the radio station offices, we're in "closings mode." It seems now, more than ever, everyone's panicky about extreme winter weather.

While we strive to get closing and cancellation information out in a timely fashion, and have developed a website page resource that is second to none, I'd like to remind you of a basic rule: "If you're not comfortable going out or driving - DON'T."

Most schools have policies that even if they do not close, if you have a safety concern, then it is your right as a parent to keep your student home.

If you're worried about getting to the shopping center, the hair dresser or your club meeting -- don't go. The world will not end. And you'll have a lot less stress.

While we simply cannot announce the onslaught of cancellations for clubs, events and activities that we receive at WCLO - we will try to prioritize and highlight those that impact the most people. The rest will be posted on our website closings page.

Certainly common sense dictates that if we have to choose between a club meeting that has 10 members, or an event that affects hundreds, it is our responsibility to deal with the announcements with the greatest impact first.

So stay with WCLO during severe weather. And check the website before heading out. We can't guarantee everyone contacts us for their closing information, but if they do, we'll get it posted to the website.

Most importantly, do not put yourself or others in peril by heading out when you are not comfortable doing so. There's always tomorrow.

If the current forecast holds, the best we can all do is put on some hot chocolate, build a snowman or just look outside and enjoy the majesty of nature taking control.

people these days are way too concerned with making money...and they will put anyones life in danger in the process...there was no reason for any business to be open or for anyone to be driving yesterday...common sense should come in a freaking spray can!

GM did not cancel a shift. They had to close because enough people could not get to work. The management down there could not make a common sense decision if their life depended on it.

Yeah, I don't think Stoughton Trailers has ever cancelled work - or let people know ahead of time about it.

common sense? whats that. I can't believe ANYONE would be nuts enough to go out in this crap UNLESS they were fire, police, EMS, plows....and to have kids out driving around in this weather is just plain stupidity.
