Council members' expenses
Janesville City Council member Bill Truman says he does not believe council members should receive a salary, but he argues for expense reimbursement. Truman says legitimate expenses such as mileage for trips to research city issues should be reimbursed.
Truman says the council should adopt a policy to reimburse legitimate expenses, and the policy should exclude current council members until they are re-elected/

Trumans suggestions make sense. Legitimate expenses reimbursed at IRS standards is appropriate.i.e. ~48 cents per mile. I am certain the city manager submits legitmate expenses while performing city business. A public policy defining acceptable/unacceptable expenses is reasonable.

would 50.00 per city council meeting Be OUt of line? I don't think it would it would help offset the cost like computer paper , ink, milage, gas (Remember gas is over 3.00 per gallon to). Are the city manger, DPW director, Fire Chief, and Police Chief given city vechiles or are they compensated for their Mileage?

Rather than expensing out every mile, copy, etc (which would be an admin. nightmare),wouldn't it be easier and possibly more cost effective to give our elected officials a reasonable salary for their duties?
