LOL @ merrypoppins (sic?)

Those Democrats deserve such praise for "rolling the dice" with Fannie & Freddie despite the warnings. And the stimulus spending has gone over so well they're pushing for round two!

Brilliant!

This is disturbing. For years and years our state legislature has been robbing the WiDOT trust fund for the benefit of the General Fund. In doing so, they've hampered WiDOT's ability to maintain our deteriorating roadways.

The city of Janesville could have put the money towards projects to repair the lousy roads in Rock County, some of the worst roads in the state, but decides to allocate it to a non-revenue, non tax generating bike path for peddle fairies.

Nobody's going to lose weight on a 1.8 mile bike path unless they jog it back and forth. And if the intent is to provide for a safe place to bicycle, why not build a circular bowl for them to ride in and keep them from riding 2-3 abreast on the county roads, holding back traffic?

Tip,

While it's a good thing there is aid available for displaced workers, it's a shame that it's targeted to a specific industry. Let's face it, Gov. Doo-Little gets no publicity out of your situation, so there's no relief for you.

Sorry Nemesis, no tax breaks on the horizon for John or Jane. Governor Doo-Little and his party have plans, ya know. Got to raise the gas tax and the property tax and the sales tax, and probably another raid on the transportation fund (almost $1,00,000,000 over 6 yrs) to pay for promises made and favors due.

It's time to leave Wisconsin.

The best way to facilitate Obama's platform for change is to oust the do nothing Senators and Representatives that block compromise and support pork.

Herb Kohl says he supports HR1 because it doesn't contain any "earmarks". What about the pork, Herb? What about the pork?

On How would you rate Obama's first two weeks in office?

Oh that's just great! We allow the Flatlanders to run rampant on our streets, lakes and rivers but ONE Wisconsin cat enters their neighborhood and BANG, they shoot it! I can't wait 'till tourist season opens...lol.

"Gary Schenck says it's hard for elected state officials to ignore complaints from inconvenienced voters when they have the power to make the interstate safer."
.
Oh puh-lease! If Governor Doyle really cared about our safety on the roads he'd stop robbing from the transportation fund and put the money to work as intended. As it is, we have to apply for federal aid to pay for snow removal, we have a system of cameras to monitor traffic conditions sitting half arsed idle, and 30+ year old roads in desperate need of repair.
.
As time goes by this will all be forgotten. Spring fever will hit Madison and they'll soon start building more bike paths...

Back to Stella, just for a minute;

Faced with the frightening prospect of "Loser Pays", and standing toe-to-toe with those giant Golden Arches, Stella may have never brought suit in a case that most certainly needed to be heard.

And the judge you speak of, who cried over his lost pants, was ordered to pay court costs and attorney fees of the cleaner he so frivolously sued.

While I agree with the need to reduce or eliminate frivolous law suits, you (Tim) should better understand the facts behind the McDonald's case before you use it as an example.

In reality, Stella is a little, old lady. I think she was around 80 at the time and she was a passenger. The driver of the car had parked so she could add creamer and unfortunately, she spilled her coffee. Poor old Stella suffered second and third degree burns to approx. 20% of her body, and spent something like a week in the hospital undergoing skin grafts.
.
Prior to her case, McDonald's received hundreds of complaints of burns from its coffee and cut checks for many injuries; they knew their product was dangerous yet continued to brew at a much higher temperature than "normal". Why? Free refills. Coffee too hot to drink = fewer refills. (There may also be evidence that brewing at hotter temps requires fewer beans.)
.
Yes, we all know coffee is hot, but third degree burns? Who would expect that?
.
Prior to retaining an attorney, Stella sought settlement from McDonalds for $20,000---which was approx. her medical expenses. McDonald's responded by offering her a couple hundred bucks. Throughout the litigation, Stella and/or her attorney offered very reasonably settlement amounts. Even a mediator recommended that McDonald's settle the case, but they refused. Many legal scholars speculate that McDonald's arrogance irritated the judge. And the award that everyone found so shockingly huge was equal to approx two days of coffee sales.
.
The loser paid dearly for this one, as they should have.
