I Love Being a Dad

By Al Fagerli ( Contact )   July 14, 2008

Every parent learns quickly that it's not about you,but about them. At Riverfest Sunday night,it was another example.

When my 18 year old college-bound daughter mentioned she wanted to go to Riverfest with her mother and I to see the Beach Boys,I thought "Why?". Was it because ol' Dad was going to get "15 seconds of Fame" on stage with a intro of the band? It was fun to think about for a few seconds, before she disclosed she wanted to see actor John Stamos, who appears with the Beach Boys at times. Anna grew up during Stamos' days on "Full House" and was,and still is a big fan.

Anyway, since WCLO was a sponsor of the Beach Boys appearance,we were able to get backstage passes. We waited for the Beach Boys to come out and after lead man Mike Love stopped and signed a couple of autographs...here comes John Stamos. My daughter almost fainted being so close to him, separated by a rope of course.

Well,John was nice enough to have his picture taken with her,the only one he had time for as the band was heading up to the stage.

While it has been a summer of memories with her high school graduation and the preparation for her leaving for school this fall,it will be some time before I will see her that happy.

Happy Father's Day Al.
