Who is really driving the Bus

By Al Fagerli ( Contact )   October 14, 2009

The NFL announced a change to the start time of a couple of games on November 1st. One is the Viking at Packer game. We all know what that game is about, the return to Titletown of Brett Favre. The other, the Giants at Eagles game. With the chance the Phillies would reach the World Series, game four is scheduled for that night. So,according to the NFL,to help out the city of Philadelphia, the switch of the Eagle/Giant game to noon will help with a shared parking lot, even though the two teams play in separate stadiums. It just so happens,Fox television is broadcasting the World Series and the NFL doubleheader that day. It was reported last week that Fox was talking with the NFL about switching the start time of the Packer game to take advantage of the Favre factor. Remember ESPN recorded the biggest cable audience EVER two weeks ago when the Packers went to Minnesota. If the game spills past 6 o'clock our time,it would be a ratings bonanza Fox feels. Now you know as Paul Harvey used to say "the rest of the story".

Packer fans can think what they want about Favre, but there is certainly no question he brings in the fans and the ratings. The Jets set a record for jersey sales when he signed with them, his Packer jersey was always a favorite, and almost immediately you started to see Favre's Viking jersey after he signed there. I'm sure the NFL, ESPN, and Fox all were seeing dollars signs when he decided to come back again this year.
