Another football season in the books

By Al Fagerli ( Contact )   October 28, 2009

It ends so suddenly in a tournament situation. Tuesday,Parker and Milton fell in the opening round of the WIAA playoffs and thus ended WCLO's live coverage of football for the season. Due to our signal strength,it's tough to follow teams too far from Janesville. Hard to believe the nine plus weeks are over. Seems like yesterday John Nevins and myself began the season in Beloit. I was very pleased with the play of Parker and Craig this season. Granted, the Cougars struggled on the left side of the column, but they were in just about every game and Ben McCormick will have a better year next year with the players knowing what to expect and a chance to work with the new offense and defense. Parker's season was very good as well. If Adam Vestervelt wasn't a sophmore,he would be deserving of all-state recognition. Just think,he has two years to go and the Vikings had 10 sophmores on their roster that all saw playing time. The Big 8,as a whole, was the most competitive I have seen in many years.
The number of fine running backs was almost hard to fathom. I'm glad I don't have to pick the all-conference team because someone is going to be slighted. I really enjoyed this season and I hope you,the listener, did too. We really are committed to bringing the Janesville/Beloit area LOCAL sports coverage along with our Badgers,Packers,Brewers and Bucks coverage.
And a big thank you to our sponsors. We all know how hard things are and their committment to the kids is very much appreciated. See ya in the gyms...hoops a little over three weeks away. (I hope baseball is over by then.)
