Avatar is worth seeing

By Steve Benton ( Contact )   December 28, 2009

I finally got a chance to see Avatar. I was hoping to see it at an IMAX theater, but the snow on Saturday (12/26) made me change my mind about driving to Fitchburg.

I enjoyed the movie but I'm having a little trouble explaining it to people who ask, "what is it about?" After some thought, I've come to the conclusion that it's a combination of "Dances with Wolves" and "Fern Gully." Without explaining too much to those who haven't seen the movie yet, the "Dances with Wolves" connection is where the main character is absorbed into the indigenous inhabitant's culture. The "Fern Gully" connection is the animation and whole destroying the rain forest thing.

There was one thing that spoiled a perfect movie experience however... the 3-D glasses. Putting glasses over the top of my regular glasses was very awkward and uncomfortable. I also had a little trouble adjusting them so the picture wasn't blurry.

My rating is 8 on a scale of 10.

Yes, I heard Avatar was the best visual experience yet! I think I'll make a trip to the movies in the next few weeks. :)

Just watching glimpses of the movie on TV it looks like a conglomeration of special effects used in a TV commercial, not all that impressive, so it may be end up being a very long commercial, one that extracts dollars from my wallet.

My 3D glasses made some of the characters appear blue.
