Ahhh, Father's Day

By Steve Benton ( Contact )   June 17, 2009

Fathers will be honored Sunday June, 21st for... well just being fathers. I fall into that category, I have three children, all young adults now. So far they've settled for the traditional card and not much else.

I should probably wait until they're married, with a family of their own and they get a taste of what being a father is all about, before they do something special for me. I've sent my dad many cards too, but I've also taken him to baseball games, played a round of golf with him, (I don't golf) and taken him out for dinner.

Maybe this year my kids will put a little extra thought into their actions. Maybe.....

Traditionaly my husband and I give Dad a gift card for one of his favorite stores. This year, in addition to the gift card, I decided to make breakfast for Dad. I enjoyed doing it possibly more than Dad did and it makes me think that I should do that much more often - not just for Fathers Day.

Yeah, dads do seem to get the short end of the stick. Mother's Day is during the school year, so all the kids bring home a project for mom, right? Father's Day is during summer break. Who's helping the kids with dad's present?
