Tis the season to hold your breath

By Steve Benton ( Contact )   November 8, 2009

Can you smell it?

It's hard to miss the acrid smell of smoldering leaves this time of year, especially if you travel beyond the city limits of Janesville, Beloit, or most other progressive cities. This blog is usually about more pleasant topics, but I just had to get this off my chest (cough), since I nearly choked to death Sunday while driving through a rural, bedroom community just north of the city of Beloit. I'm not sure what weather pattern was in affect Sunday but the smoke from the countless, smoldering leaf piles, hung thick in the air. I can only hope it rains or snows soon, or burning bans take affect in all communities.
