Way "Up North"

By Steve Benton ( Contact )   October 15, 2009

I'll be leaving Wisconsin for a little rest and relaxation next week. My brother and his wife, and their cats, have invited me to spend some time at their place in Minnesota.

They live in Thief River Falls, which not only is the only city I can think of with 3 names, but is also in the northern part of the state.

When Wisconsinites think of "up north" they think of such places as Hayward, Rhinelander, Lac du Flambeau, or Eagle River. If you look at a map, Minnesota reaches much farther north than that.

What I'm getting at is I'll be about as "up north" as you can get without crossing the border into Canada.

In previous visits, my brother has banned me from using his computer saying, "I want you to relax and don't do anything you normally do when you're at home." I'm hoping to convince him otherwise and will try to send out a couple blogs during my little adventure, if in fact it turns out to be one. I'm expecting snow on the ground when I arrive.
