Homebrewing

By Kyle Geissler ( Contact )   February 15, 2012

I don’t have many hobbies, but one I make time for is home brewing.

I’ve gradually gotten more serious about it as I gather more tools and gadgets to improve the process, but I just make kits. As long as I follow the directions, everything usually turns out well, but it makes me wish I had done better in chemistry class so I could try deviating from the recipe.

Each batch produces two cases of beer.

My favorite? IPA (India Pale Ale). I love the hop flavor.

State lawmakers are considering a bill to allow home brewers to transport their homemade goods outside their home. Right now, it’s technically illegal but many home brewers have participated in tastings and tasting contests in the past. Now that the issue is front and center, home brewing enthusiasts have put taste contests on hold while the bill is under consideration.

I’ve never been deep enough into the hobby to have any reason to transport beer anywhere, but it’s interesting to see an issue related to this hobby getting a hearing on the state level.

Have you ever tried home brewing or a friend’s home brew?
