Love song, or booty call?

By Rose Stricker ( Contact )   April 19, 2010

The song "Need You Now" by Lady Antebellum won Song of the Year from the Academy of Country Music over the weekend.

At first listen, you might think it's a sensual song of longing and loss.
However, with lyrics like this...
"It's a quarter after one, I'm a little drunk and I need you now.
Said I wouldn't call but I lost all control and I need you now."

... it could be taken as a one-night-stand booty call.

What do you think? Consider how this song would come off if sung by a male vocalist instead of a female one... or sung by your teen aged daughter. Hm...

"I hope Miley does Playboy"

I think her sister might before Miley does. Noah Cyrus is trying to launch a lingerie line for little girls.

Let's be glad Hannah Montanna (Miley) didn't sing it omg the speculation...Thinking she'll be in playboy anyway when she hits 18..she's almost lost many millions already on her path to stardom..

The best line in the whole song...
I'd rather hurt than feel nothing at all...

I have to agree with jbrown that's what I thought when I first heard the song.

Makes me even happier that my almost 13 year old daughter HATES this song and always tells me to change the station when it comes on the radio.

I would have to say this is about your "ex" and how easy it can be to fall back into comfortable times, even though the both of you know it's not going to work out in the long run. So to answer your question Rose, yes! It's a booty call "love song." Ha!

frogger: There are a LOT of hook-up songs. Let's focus on *this one* for now.

Ever listen to the HEART song about a guy in a hotel. Fling with a guy doesn't even know his name and gets pregnant. NICE!

Seems like a song of bad decisions!

Wonder if it would come across differently if it were an R&B song instead of a country song.
