Wild parsnip
It's no joke - parsnip can burn you. Kelly Kearns from the Department of Natural Resources says serious burns can result if juice from wild parsnip comes in contact with your skin. The burns are caused, Kerarns says, when the wild parsnip juice is exposed to sunlight. Wild parsnip needs plenty of sun and relatively dry conditions. It doesn't thrive in the woods. The best proptection is to wear gloves, long pants and long-sleeved shirts when opertating in areas where the plant lives.
Kearns says one of the worst things you can do is to go after wild parsnip with a Weed Whacker while wearing shorts.
