How would you described Janesville City Manager Steve Sheiffer's 20-year performance as the city's top executive?
Janesville City manager Steve Sheriffer is retiring after 20 years as the city's top executive. I have covered the city during those years and have found him to be an excellent administrator. He certainly leaves Janesville a better city than it was when he arrived. What do you think?

We have nothing to show for the tens of millions dollars of new construction generating tax revenues like Pine Tree Plaza, etc. the last 20 years. Where did all the millions of new tax revenues go??? Our property taxes should have been reduced! Our streets, facilities and Parks have been desciminated. Lions Beach and the building destroyed, no maintenance.bridges and senior center ignored and disgraced. The council has no leadership either. The city has been gutted while helping a couple of his buddies. His salary should have been cut in half and let go when he tried to get a job out west and they told him to go back home.To him anything over 25 years old is an eyesore. He destroyed completely our 26 year old former library claiming it would just be remodeled. He lied to Friends of Riverside Park and councilmembers Loasching & Truman when he said Riversides wading pool would need to meet all new codes, having a bathhouse, etc. Now he admits just just him $23,000 and it can now be opened, no prob;lem or need for new buildings or codes. I hope the new city manage can save our city without us suffering too much pain.

To truly determine his job performance we would need to take a vote. Oops thats right the person running the city isn't voted into office. Am I living in China?

I agree Stan. As a long-time resident who lost many school friends to Fort Wayne back in the mid-80's, I'm glad Mr. Scheiffer stepped up to the plate and helped plan a long-term strategy some 20 years ago. Best of luck to him...and I hope Mr. Messer gets an opportunity to interview for the position. I'm really impressed with his involvement.
