Janesville School Superintendent under fire

By Stan Milam ( Contact )   February 9, 2009

The nine Janesville School Board commissioners are expected to complete their deliberations regarding Superintendent Tom Evert's future with the district this evening following the regular school board meeting. Once again, the commissioners will meet behind closed doors and refuse to even reveal their deliberations involve Evert's tenure with the district.

When the commissioners finally decide what to do about Evert, they will have to announce it publicly. The next question will be why did the commissioners do whatever it is they may do? Will they publicly discuss what went in to the decision to take action, or will they agree to take action and then remain silent?

Will the board's action be the result of a unanimous vote? If not, will those not voting with the majority be bound by any agreement to remain silent about the action?

Still a lot of questions and few answers.

Always makes me nervous about what "they" are up to when a publicly elected group decides to meet behind closed doors.

Whatever in the world is this all about? And does the public who employs the person have a right to know?
