The Roller Rink

By Tim Beggs ( Contact )   January 3, 2012

We noticed it on our way home from Green Bay and thought they were extinct. The Roller Rink was open on New Years Day!

I didn't think they were around anymore. Roller skating must be making a comeback I thought. Remember the cool tunes, mirror ball & couples only skate songs? Growing up we spent many days hanging out at Tanglefoot, Ace High & Skatin' Place. We even had opportunities to go 'skakin' for gym class in high school sometimes.

Those were some fun times and I'm happy to see that there are places like that today. I've heard Beloit & Johnson Creek have roller skating facilities still open. I'm interested to find out about other 'rinks' in operation today and where you went 'skatin' back in the day?

Edgerton has skating at the community center on friday nights and they are awesome to work with for private parties or organization fundraisers!

I grew up in Burlington which had the "Skate Barn" so many fond memories there. The owners are now long gone, but it's still there and an old high school friend now runs it. I was sad to see the one in Janesville go.

I would love to open a new roller rink it is however a very difficult business to find anyone to help finance. I have an ideal location for a great roller rink in mind. Any suggestions would be welcome. I think rollerskating will always be a fond memory for a lot of us. I would love to pass this on to the next generation.

Funny I'm reading this post about rollerskating...I just went rollerskating this past Sunday w/ our family at the Edgerton Tri-County Community Center. It's a big, older, brick building w/ a gymnasium. There's a side room that was filled w/ skates. And the gymnasium was where we skated. I have no idea if they only host private parties (as this was thru our church group) or if it's open to the public. Either way, it was fun and our kids aged 3 and 5 had a blast. I meant to google 'rollerskating' when we got home because I'd like to take them again.

As for my husband and I, we grew up in Jefferson and would beg our parents to drive us to Fort to the Skate Capitol every weekend!

Not aware of any rinks in the area. I sure miss my younger days at Ace High.....S-A-T-UR-D-A-Y
Night! We would walk from the south side of town, taking a short cut over the Center Ave trestle. If my kids EVER pulled that stunt.....oh, there would be trouble!

I skated them all! Spent a lot of junior high time at Tanglefoot then Skatin place, only a couple times at Ace...that was an older crowd.

Sure is sad we don't have that option in J'ville.

Maybe a roller rink would help with childhood obesity?
