Welcome Dan Conry to "Your Talk Show"

By Tim Bremel ( Contact )   October 1, 2010

It has been a long, exhaustive search. In the end, I discovered some very talented individuals who were interested in bringing you a forum for discussion of issues and ideas. They are all qualified and the choice was not an easy one.

But in the end, there can only be one talk show host, and after careful consideration, we chose Mr. Dan Conry.

For us, Dan exhibits the qualities we want in a host, and his presentation is professional and entertaining.

I know that Dan will not be 'everyones favorite flavor' of talk host. But in the end, we believe we have chosen a host who will be able to consider and present all sides to issues, while maintaining his own opinions.

Its my pleasure to have worked through this process with many radio professionals, and an even greater enjoyment to present to you a host that will continue our traditions of quality, listener-centered, local radio.

I hope you'll join me in welcoming Dan to the Janesville/Beloit community.
Keep watching for more info in the coming days on how you can participate in the show.

Bucky,
You don't seem to recall 5.5 years of Stan Milam. Sstan was hardly right wing in his approach.
My beef with the new guy is his inability to delve deeply into topics. He talks off the cuff and rarely gets past talking points or headlines.
Then, on fridays, he does "jump around fridays."
Bbut really, he jumps around all week -- he brings up a topic then takes a call on an entirely different issue and then comes out of that call and moves on to something altogether different.
Talk radio has been successful because is focuses on issues the mainstream media decides are not relevant. Conry touches on some of those topics -- but isn't offering any keen insight.
************
I think he'll be gone my next spring -- either to another market leaving all us small town rubes behind, or the hue and cry from former listeners will be too great for the station's management to stick with him. Just a prediction.

Thought I would give the new guy a chance as WCLO is usually right wing in their programing and I thought maybe the new guy would be some fresh air.I made a mistake no change here just the same old FOX news crapolla. I'm going back to radio that is intelligent and thought provoking and you can join me at WPR 90.7 fm.

I tell everyone I know about the Dan Conry show and they all have become regular listeners. I think his following will become huge. I wonder if WCLO will be syndicating his show at some point? I know the local stuff would not really matters to others from different area's but if he had an hour of his show dedicated to national topics it would be popular nationaly.

I seldom listen to WCLO, but just happened to while Dan's program was on. He's great! I'll be tuning in all the time from now on.

proartist,
i believe he's fair - he certainly let's anyone speak. and were you complaining about stan's left of center biases?
i think the show lacks structure. he throws out a topic then lets the listeners call in about anything.
and yammers on and on about being a cop, being from new york, his mom, his brother and his dad.

While feigning innocence, being humble, and fairness (can anyone say FOX Network?), the buzz words of the zealously right-wing are still the same with this "Beck wannabe". Sorry, WCLO, much to the disappointment of your regular listeners, your polarizing bias is blatantly showing with the hiring of Conry.

i've really tried to give this guy a shot. but while he brings up topics, he never goes anywhere with them. very little in-depth analysis.
plus, how many times does he need to tell us about his mother or his brother or his father.
he's getting old real fast.
five more years?

I have tried to give him a chance, but this morning's show was about the last straw. I would have called, but I was just about to work and didn't have the time. He needs to get some compassion. He showed no compassion for Sam Aergerter's father... said that many have been through more and worse than him. I am not making excuses for what he did. Clearly, he should NOT have robbed a bank and gone gambling with the money. But, the background was given to establish the REASON behind the bank robbery. Not to provide a free pass for his behavior. I think that most "right leaning" people need to get some compassion and empathy above all. And that was not anywhere in his diatribe this morning. And please Dan, stop calling Rose "Rosie". I find that condescending to the professional that she is.

I've listened thoroughly for 3 shows. He seems to be trying to be a "Midwesterner", but his East Coast opinions and abrasive retorts betray him. His confrontational approach is unappealing, and he has quickly evidenced the fact that he knows nothing about Janesville. He says he's driven through the 4th Ward and played with the Janesville Drum and Bugle Corp. Clearly that doesn't qualify him as a person who "knows" Janesville. For now, I will no longer listen. I'll wait six months and see if he's actually learned enough about Janesville to make insightful comments.

Dan - I look forward to hearing your familiar voice once again...via podcast from St. Paul, MN. We miss you here...that Chris Baker replacement can't hold a candle to your upbeat delivery and Glen Beck - all the drama.
Miss you at the 'Bou, Dan, I was wondering where you had gone...now I gotcha again! Take care! Sharon.

Dan Conry is a welcome change for WCLO in the morning. Thanks for introducing him to us. I have informed all of my friends and you have certainly gained some new listeners.

Tim, you have made an excellent choice. I like what I hear and will be tuning in more now that there is a voice for common sense on WCLO. Thank you.

Great choice Tim. Dan gets a lot of info out in a short time and knows how to do a radio show.I knew right away he had radio experience.

WCLO could save money by eliminating Dan and just running the Laura Ingraham show again in the morning. It would be the same content.

I gave it a try. Not for me, so I'll give up on the AM radio and get Clark Howard from the podcasts.

I was really hoping for someone local. That's what made Stan entertaining, his local perspective. This seems like just more of the standard conservative script, and that's already being done... overdone.

Caught the tail end of Dan's introductory show this morning. I like what I hear. Sharp, concise voice, interesting background. I think Dan will bring a whole new feel to what was getting to be a rather stale show. Stan was good but so is change. I've been a regular listener in the past and will continue to listen and participate. I know it's early but I say excellent choice! Welcome, Danno!

@Proartist, I'm not sure if you've ever listened to one of Dan's shows. From the sound of it, you haven't. He's incredibly fair, allows the callers to voice their opinions, and always treats people with respect. I guess I wasn't aware that just because someone admits that they 'lean right' that this immediately establishes their "ethnocentric" and "xenophobic" tendancies.

How ironic that the people who clamor for 'inclusiveness' and 'building understanding and accuracy' are the same people who pass judgement on others before giving them the opportunity to prove themselves.

And xenophobia is a pretty harsh accusation (which is--by the way--completely unfounded in Dan's case). I'd also like to mention that Dan would have the respect not to flippantly assign such labels to anyone without having a multitude of facts to back up the claim. Please cite yours and show the same level of respect that I know he would extend to you.

"....exhibits the qualities we want in a host, and his presentation is professional and entertaining." - Bremel
Professional, yes. Entertaining, absolutely in the amusement sense of the word and he will certainly cause a "buzz". But if Dan exhibits the "qualities we want", the WCLO HR Dept. clearly favors extreme partisanship and fostering ever-increasing ethnocentrism and xenophobia over inclusion, building understanding, and accuracy. I'm sure many do not admire those qualities for which Dan was hired and they don't reflect the "we" of many in this, and other WCLO listening, communities.
