Return to the Say

Say "Goodnight", Laura.

By Tim Bremel ( Contact )   June 30, 2011

Laura Ingraham will conduct her final show on WCLO's weeknight schedule on Thursday, June 30th. After that date, Laura will only be heard from 9pm- midnight on Saturdays when there are no sports broadcasts.

Depending on your political persuasion, that may be good or bad news. But for WCLO, we are honored to have had the number 4 or 5 talk show in the country on our airwaves for more than five years.

Five years is a long time in the radio business. Especially these days when technology changes the dynamics of our business at a mind-numbing pace. And so, we find ourselves doing our best to keep pace.

To that end, we are proud to bring you Michael Smerconish. Daytime listeners to WCLO became acquainted with Michael during his brief 2-3pm show following Clark Howard. Effective July first, Michael's entire program will air from 6-9pm whenever we do not have a sporting event on the air.

Michael is the leader in a new and growing trend of less politically oriented and more politically "centrist" in their approach to talk radio. You'll find much more conversation about pop culture and topics making the news that are not politically based.
As I said, that seems to be the fastest growing trend in the talk radio business, and WCLO stives to keep up with the audience trends as much as our schedule allows. I hope you'll give Michael a listen and let us know what you think. One thing is certain - he won't please everyone, but we hope this less divisive tone is appreciated by most.

If you'd like to learn more about Michael Smerconish, I encourage you to visit his website.

So, we've totally overhauled our weekends (you can see the new schedule on our program line-up page). We've made a change to our 6-9pm weekday line-up. What next? That would be a new, permanent mid-day talk show host.

Stay Tuned.

I know it's kind of late, but I did have the radio on coming home from work one day and heard her. It was very contrary to the rest of the station's programming. WCLO is generally local and positive news. I really never heard a more anti-American radio show than Laura Ingraham.

Hooray for a show that might actually cover something other than politics! I am sick of politics and politicians. There are actually other things people want to know about.

Thanks so much for removing the right wing propaganda and adding someone who will actually listen and promote both sides of the issues. The right wing propaganda machine has turned me away from the radio airwaves and their "We're going to hell because of the left," has turned many like me away. Smerconish is a breath of fresh air.

Welcome Michael!
After visiting the web site and listening to the clips, I look forward to listening to the show. At last, someone who makes you form your own opinions, instead of telling you what you should think. WCLO is back in my car radio.
