47 years ago, I turned a year old, and Bob Dailey was first heard in the Janesville community playing music at night on WCLO.

Its impossible to sum up all the accomplishments and achievements that Bob has been a part of over those years. I've been privileged to work for, and along side, Bob for half of his illustrious career. The business of broadcasting has changed a lot in those 24 years... and even more so since Bob took to the air one evening in 1964.

I remember countless promotions, contests, giveaways and client outings where Bob was always the gracious host. Perhaps my favorite was one year at the fair, maybe 15 years or so ago, when the station brought in an armored truck and gave listeners a chance to win $100,000. Our contestant didn't pick the winning envelope - but the grin on Bob's face as he awarded her an unexpected check for $1000 as a consolation prize was one I will always remember.

Bob contributed to the industry more than most listeners will ever know, serving on the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association's Board of Directors and Foundation Board many years.

As a boss and a leader, he constantly looked for ways to help us improve our skills, providing access to seminars and training courses. Most of all, Bob was an employee's boss. I mean, he lived the job. He could identify with the challenges of announcers, and give input and direction on programming changes because he was one of "us". That's just one of the dozens of other things that made Bob special at WCLO.

I could go on, but I'd rather hear your memories and invite you to share them with others here.

Bob, we wish you many happy years of well-deserved retirement, and I look forward to continuing to see you around the community and our building from time to time!

Bob, I will miss hearing your cheerful delivery and commentary as I start my day. You are definitely a Janesville treasure, whose work I have greatly admired.

About 18+ years ago, you and Dan Jannisch hosted an auction on WCLO for a seat on a WWII plane that was set to fly from the Rock County airport to Milwaukee. My mother won the seat on that flight on behalf of my father. She gave him that trip as a gift for their wedding anniversary. I cannot begin to convey how much my father enjoyed that experience. He was a lover of anything having to do with aviation, especially historically significant flight. He chose to fly on a B-17, and was like a kid in a candy shop on the day of the event. I really believe that was one of the happiest days of his life. After the event, he was interviewed on WCLO about the experience, and a story and photos followed in the Gazette. My father could not say enough about the wonderful time he had in speaking with you and Dan. A few days later a tape of the interview from the show arrived in the mail. Since my father's passing, I've listened to that interview to hear the joy in his voice. On behalf of him and my family, thank you for providing the opportunity in your programming choices for that memorable event in his life.

Best wishes to you for a very long and happy retirement!

I've had the pleasure of not only listening to Bob but also being a former employee. The guy you heard on the radio was the same guy you worked for. Calm, reassuring, articulate, and at ease.

I remember one time while only being at WCLO for just a few months that severe weather had come through the area. The National Weather Service had issued several Severe Thunderstorm and Tornado Warnings throughout the area.

WCLO was to sign off of the air from local programming at 6 pm and go to satellite programming. I had tried for about an hour to get in contact with our PD. The AM PD, the FM PD, and Bob were all out of town for the weekend. I made a decision to stay on the air past 6 pm with local weather coverage until the system had passed.

The next weekend (and on a Saturday afternoon) Bob had been in the conference room working on something for the station. Before I went on, he called me into the conference room. I had feared that I was in trouble for staying live longer then I was suppose to.

Quite the opposite was true.

Bob had sat me down with somewhat of a concerned look on his face. He then stood up, shook my hand, and with a smile said "ya done a good job kid." According to Bob, several people had called into the station the week following the severe weather and complimented the station on what a good job the station had done during the severe weather outbreak.

I've never forgotten this compliment or the handwritten memo that Bob gave me. Thanks for being a true manager Bob and a real gentleman. It's actions like this that I have taken into my management career.

Unfortunately I didn't stay in radio, but people like Bob have. Bob-it was a true honor working for you.

We are all grateful to have had you on the air and in our lives every morning for the past 47 years!

Enjoy your retirement Bob for many years to come!!

Forty years ago, when I was 16, I left Janesville to live down south with my sister. I remember returning home at the Christmas holidays and coming down to the kitchen in the morning. The sound of Bob Dailey's soothing voice made me feel so "home". My mother always had the kitchen radio on, and I grew up listening to you, Bob. I moved back to Janesville and continued to listen to your broadcasts, always appreciating your calm, friendly manner all these years. Thanks for being there, Bob, you're one in a million and I hope you enjoy your well deserved retirement.

Hi Bob,

I probably heard you when you first started on the radio here. I always enjoyed you in the mornings with your banter with Al Fagerly and whoever you had on. Thats what added such a nice local touch and home feeling to WCLO. You still have that great radio voice You had a great career and we will all miss what you brought to WCLO and the community, Great job Bob and now you can sleep in a little later and enjoy your retirement.
