Janesville City Council President Sam Liebert has canceled a public informal job performance review of City Manager Mark Freitag. Liebert sent out an email telling how he’d informed Freitag the discussion item scheduled for the council’s September 26 meeting would be cancelled. Liebert wrote he left a voice mail for Freitag saying he’d cancelled the early performance review. He says he will wait until the normally appointed time for Freitag’s review. Liebert said he wanted to hold the informal review to talk to Freitag about how he plans to react to harsh criticism he received in a recent anonymous survey of city employees. Freitag has clashed with the council over aspects of his job performance before as well. At Monday night’s council meeting, three council members criticized the planned September 26 discussion item, saying it was premature and inappropriate.
