Warming centers open

(Gazette staff) The Rock County Sheriff’s Office is reminding residents that dangerously cold weather is expected to hit Rock County over the next few days.  The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory for Rock County starting at 9 p.m. Wednesday. Wind-chill temperatures are expected to dip as low as 20 degrees below zero late Wednesday and as low as minus 25 degrees Thursday.  The sheriff’s office is reminding those who need to seek shelter from the dangerously cold weather that there are several daytime and nighttime warming centers throughout Rock County that are now operating.  In a release, the sheriff’s office listed the following shelters:

OVERNIGHT SHELTERS

Janesville

— GIFTS Men’s Shelter, various locations after 5 p.m. Monday through Sunday. Shelter rotates locations at local churches in Janesville. Call ahead for current shelter location at 608-728-0140. Register at 608-371-3735. Shelter check-in is 6 to 9 p.m. daily.

— House of Mercy, 320 Lincoln St., 608-754-0045, Register by 6 p.m. Monday through Sunday.

Beloit

— The Sparrows Nest, 1816 Harrison Ave., 608-362-8215. Open after 5 p.m. Monday through Sunday.
