The highly anticipated Garden Art Display Project has returned to Rotary Botanical Gardens. “Something Fishy” is this year’s project theme. Participating artists received a hand-crafted wooden fish, made by Rotary Botanical Gardens’ volunteers, in early February and returned their decorated fish in April for weather proofing by our generous sponsor, CARSTAR of Janesville, Wis.
Staff and volunteers at Rotary Botanical Gardens will put the fish art on display throughout the Gardens, just in time for Mother’s Day Weekend. Each fish is unique and portrays a different story. This year, Garden guests will see these colorful fish decorated with paint, stones, 3-D displays, metal, glitter, wire, pottery, and more!
The decorated fish will become part of the 2017 StoryWalk program held at Rotary Botanical Gardens in partnership with Janesville’s Hedberg Public Library. StoryWalk at the Gardens will kick off on June 14, 2017, in conjunction with the Gardens’ Community Appreciation Day (free admission to the Gardens). The featured StoryWalk book is titled, Commotion in the Ocean, by Giles Andreae and will be featured in the “Aquarium Garden.” A large, outdoor imaginative feature, the “Aquarium Garden” includes a variety of 3-D sea creatures and live plants.
Garden visitors will see the fish art projects on display until September 4, 2017. The Garden Art Display Project will conclude with a free reception and live auction on September 8, 2017, where the public is invited to bid on and purchase these unique fish from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. All proceeds from the auction will benefit the Gardens.
