Janesville School District custodian gives student the gloves off his hands

A Jansville student won’t have to wear socks on his hands to keep warm anymore after the generosity of a Lincoln Elementary School custodian.

Superintendent Steve Pophal says when Melvin Crawford observed the boy cutting across the school yard one cold morning this week he didn’t hesitate in giving the kid his own personal gloves.

Pophal says he might not have even known about the encounter if it wasn’t for a local parent who witnessed the exchange.

Melvin was presented with a district “Promise Keeper” pin by Pophal later that day.
