An organization collecting money for police officers may not be legitimate.
Beloit Sergeant Ryan Flanagan says if you receive a call from the Police Defense Alliance asking for a donation, don’t send them your money.
He says police departments don’t typically solicit donations.
When they do run fundraisers, they are through fraternal organizations and aren’t specifically sanctioned by the City of Beloit.
Flanagan says a simple web search can be a good indicator of whether or not a charity or business calling for donations is legitimate.
