The City of Janesville is working to narrow down potential sites for a proposed indoor sports complex.

The city’s steering committee honed in on four locations after accepting site proposals.

The sites include a portion of the Janesville Mall, a parcel across from Palmer Park, the Marling Lumber site along the Rock River and vacant land on Wright Road across from Mercy Clinic East.

The land near Palmer Park is the only location that is already city owned.

Neighborhood and Community Services Director Jennifer Petruzzello says they don’t have a cost estimate for the facility because it will depend on location and design, but it will require public and private money.

The complex would likely provide at least one permanent ice rink for hockey to replace the Janesville Ice Arena, plus flexible space for other youth sports.

Petruzzello says their parks and recreation committee will look at the sites next before they move to the city council.
