A cocaine addiction may be the motivation for a string of Rock County armed robberies last month.

26-year-old Nicholas Murn made his initial court appearance Monday, where he faced four counts of armed robbery.

He is charged with robbing Tex’s Grocery in Beloit, Casey’s General Store in Milton, and a Stop N Go and Mulligan’s BP in Janesville over the course of 10 days in late October.

According to the criminal complaint, he told police he started “robbing the places” in order to feed his drug habit.

He admitted to the four robberies he’s currently charged with and also said he robbed the Rolette Oil gas station in Beloit on October 30 and two other locations in the Fort Atkinson area, which prosecutors said could draw additional charges in court.

Court Commissioner Larry Barton set a total cash bond of $4,000 for Murn, who police arrested at the TA Express gas station in Janesville on October 31.
