A large gathering of Rock County civic, business, and charitable leaders may indicate a growing public desire to end social inequities rooted in racial bias. Saint Xavier University Professor Jacqueline Battalora talked to a sold out crowd at the YWCA Rock County’s 5th Annual Racial Justice Conference Thursday, about how “Whiteness” has been done to all of us. Battalora says accurately teaching history is fundamental to our understanding of how to address the racial challenges our society currently faces. Other speakers during the daylong conference at the Holiday Inn Express in Janesville covered topics including Unconscious Bias, how U.S. Law and Policy Divides Us, and From Good Will to Good Work or How People of Conscience Can Create a Just Cociety.
