The Rock County Jail is taking extra precaution to help prevent any potential spread of COVID-19 among inmates.

Sheriff Troy Knudson said they’ve worked with the parole and probation departments to move some inmates out of jail

The jail population started this week at 397, down 15 inmates from last week.

The district attorney’s office is also delaying the initial court appearances for many minor cases to keep fewer people reporting to the jail.

Sheriff Knudson said they’re currently isolating one inmate for cough and sore throat symptoms, but the jail still has has sufficient room in its medical unit.

They cleaned out an additional inmate housing section just in case they have future medical overflow.

Most Rock County jury trials have been postponed, and some court hearings are being rescheduled to avoid large gatherings.
