Rock County’s daily COVID-19 update for Friday shows the latest evidence of the statistical flattening of the curve, locally.

The public health department reported no new positive coronavirus patients over the last 24 hours, the first day without a new case since March 28.

The county reported a minimum of 17 new test results coming back between Thursday and Friday afternoon with no positives, plateauing at 63 total confirmed cases so far.

Rock County Epidemiologist Nick Zupan previously said they will know we’re past the peak when they see no new cases of COVID-19 for several days or when people are recovering from the illness at a faster rate than they’re seeing new cases.

The health department has not provided COVID-19 recovery data to the public, but the rate of positive tests has decreased over the last week.

Health officials say we haven’t yet seen the impact of the April 7 election and the possible coronavirus spreading that resulted from in-person voting across the state, due to how long it takes for COVID-19 symptoms to appear.
