COVID-19 is limiting local weddings, but the Rock County Clerk is trying to make it easier for couples to get married while maintaining social distancing.

Lisa Tollefson announced a new virtual marriage license application process to make local matrimony official.

Couples need to contact the clerk’s office to set up a time to meet with the clerk over a virtual Zoom meeting, where each spouse can show their birth certificate and necessary paperwork without having to meet in person.

Courthouse weddings are currently suspended due to the coronavirus, but court commissioner Stephen Meyer has set up an alternate option.

Meyer will be performing wedding ceremonies at Riverside Park in Beloit on May 20 with a maximum of six guests.

Tollefson said couples looking to get married at the park will need to apply for their marriage license by May 14 in order to receive a time slot on May 20.
