A new natural-gas fired power plant is providing energy to area homes. The Alliant West Riverside Energy Center north of Beloit went on-line late last week. Alliant spokesman Scott Reigstad says the 730-megawatt power station can provide energy to more than half-a-million homes. He says construction on the $660 million facility began in the spring of 2017. Reigstad says the next step for the project includes constructing a new, integrated solar facility adjacent to the natural gas generating station. He says the West Riverside solar garden is expected to break ground soon with a planned completion by the end of this year.
