With in-person graduation ceremonies cancelled, high school seniors in the Evansville Community School District will be taking to the streets to celebrate their success.

Parents of senior students organized a “senior cruise” through the city, with the help of the police and fire departments.

The students and their families will form a vehicle parade at Evansville High School starting at 6:00 p.m. Friday, driving down Fifth Street to Main Street before turning left onto First Street and ending at the upper baseball diamond at Lake Leota Park.

The line of cars will be led by a fire truck and ambulance, and it will include a local DJ playing music from his vehicle.

Melissa Dailey, whose oldest son is a graduating senior, said they’re encouraging the public to waive and cheer on the students from the sidewalks to maintain physical distancing.

Once the cruise reaches the park, the seniors will line up on the diamond and have their names called to celebrate their graduation.
