Rock County prosecutors reach a plea agreement with a Beloit man originally charged with first-degree sexual assault of a child under the age of 12.

29-year-old Daniel Garrison, formerly of Janesville, pleaded guilty Monday to a reduced charge of child abuse by intentionally causing harm.

In the plea deal, the state agreed to cap its argument at sentencing to five years of initial confinement and five years of extended supervision.

The criminal complaint accused Garrison of molesting a young girl in Janesville in December of 2016. The case has been pending in Rock County Court since July of 2018.

The mother of the victim asked the court to revoke Garrison’s bond following his guilty plea. She said her family was hoping to get closure and peace of mind if he was back in custody.

Garrison and his attorney Melissa Frost needed time to collect documents for the pre-sentence investigation, so Judge Barbara McCrory gave him until October 30 to report to the Rock County Jail.

His sentencing hearing is scheduled for January 7, 2021.
