The School District of Beloit’s interim superintendent will become its permanent superintendent.

The school board voted Tuesday night to approve the contract for Dan Keyser, who has spent the last eight months as the leader of the district.

Keyser was one of three finalists for the position along with Dana Arreola from Houston, Texas and Lorenzo Russell from Cleveland, Ohio.

The board offered Keyser the position after two rounds of formal interviews and multiple public forums for community members and district staff to give their input on the candidates.

Prior to taking the interim superintendent position, he had worked for over two decades as an administrator and teacher in the school districts of Waukesha and Monroe.

Keyser will be tasked with leading the School District of Beloit out of the pandemic as it faces declining enrollment with the opening of a competing public charter school, The Lincoln Academy.
