Two fires in one day for Janesville firefighters

Janesville firefighters were busy with two residential fires Saturday.  The first call came in about 3:00 p.m. in the 200 block of Main Street.  Careless use of smoking materials is being blamed for the small fire on the third floor of the Garden Court Apartments.  Officials say damage was contained to the couch and carpet in a single apartment.  The fire did prompt an evacuation, but no one was hurt.  The second fire was about 10:30 p.m. Saturday in the 1200 block of North Sumac Drive.  Officials say the fire appears to have started on the exterior of the single story home and worked its way into the attic.  The damage estimate is around $60 thousand.  The cause has not yet been determined.  No one reported hurt.
