The Janesville City Council votes to authorize the design of an indoor athletic and conference center at Uptown Janesville.

Members of the public seemed mostly supportive of the resolution which included appropriating $2 million in American Rescue Plan Act funding for the project.

Friends of the Indoor Sports Complex Co-Chairperson Christine Rebout told the City Council Monday that steps would be taken to maintain equity at the space that would house a permanent sheet of ice, a seasonal sheet of ice, and a flex space with gymnasium floor.

RockStep Capital, the owner of the former mall, has agreed to sell the former Sears store where the complex would be located to the City of Janesville for $1.00.
