The Beloit Board of Education votes six to one to approve the 2021-2022 budget.

Aimee Leavy was the lone dissenting vote on the $109 million spending plan that results in a $10.5 million shortfall.

Leavy preferred scenario three, which would have only resulted in an $8.7 million budget shortfall, however all other staff besides educators would not get a raise.

A big impact on next year’s budget was a $3.5 million payment the School District of Beloit will need to pay to the new independent charter school, the Lincoln Academy as a result of district students open enrolling.

The total tax levy the board approved was $19,731,301 with a tax rate of $10.10 per $1,000 of assessed value.
