A solar power plant at the City of Janesville’s landfill may be possible, but it doesn’t appear economically feasible.

Mark Huber with SCS Engineers says the City’s landfills have flat surfaces due to height restrictions, so it would be possible to build a solar array.

City Operations Director Maggei Darr says unfortunately the City would only make about $370,000 selling the power generated at the solar array to Alliant Energy even though the total cost of the project would be over $5 million.
