Rock County snowmobile trails are open – but not for long

The Rock County Trails open for the first time this year but they’re not expected to last.

Parks Manager John Traynor says after consulting with the snowmobile alliance, Rock County Sheriff’s Department and the D-N-R, they decided to open the trails Wednesday evening since conditions were good.

Traynor says it’s important to be careful as there will be wind-blown created hazard areas.

Traynor says if a snowmobiler notices a hazard, to let the Parks Department or Sheriff’s Department know so they can be addressed accordingly.

The windblown area between Highway M and Highway 14 south of Johnstown should be avoided.

The trails are planned to close Monday at 6:00 p-m.
